Fitted a fuel pressure/temp sender on an AN fitting. Honestly.. AN is like hosing magic. Amazing. I'm sold.
any angle you like, tighten it up. using the 37 degree conic as a seal without needing anything else...
re: TPS above I fitted a new resistive type denso TPS and it's working perfectly.

I replaced the cam cover gasket today. My old one had split on the exhaust side at one of the bolts and it was causing a bit of an oil stink I managed to split it by overtorquing it, frankly, this time I used a torque wrench XD.

Inch lbs not ft lbs! Spent most of yesterday doing a similar job, previous owner had fitted new CAS O ring but left the retaining cap bolts finger tight, they then assumed the resulting oil leak was the rocker cover gasket, so used loads of silicone sealant to try and fix things. Removing the stuff is nigh on impossible, my big fear was allowing small bits of old sealant to enter the engine, lots of it was like tissue paper on the gasket sealing face. Reckon I managed it though, reassembly today.

I managed to drive it.. two weeks since collarbone surgery. It felt good. I've missed it. - Right Collarbone so my left hand is doing shifts.. it's not at all uncomfortable.. Glad I've got so many RHD options.

So I've got an update to post here ! tl/dr : new coolant thermostat massively improved oil temp and prssure and also may have solved my oil burning on over-run. Late last year I wired in Oil Pressure/Temp sensors (inspired by our local hero Mantas) - these are the combo borscht motorsport units so you get both signals from the same sensor. Very neat. On this, the white car, I put it in at the head location just beneath the exhaust cam. ( On the blue car that's the turbo oil feed so I have a plan for another location for that car ) block location: good pressure most of the time obviously dropping off a bit once warm. head location: good pressure cold and then significant drop-off once up to temperature. I stuck with the head location so - so I could retain the stock sender for the instrument cluster display. Last weekend I did a long run on the motorway and I gathered some data... data didn't look good - not terrible but far from optimal - at the head location I was seeing way too much oil temperature (126c) - this is at 120kph so with great airflow over the radiator. oil pressure was ok but not great - it's 10w50 oil so it should show good oil pressure but should have been better frankly. coolant temps were a bit high - I'd see 100c, and it always seemed to warm up a bit faster than my other mx5 - the blue turbo. all this pointed to thermostat not flowing enough coolant out the head - it already had an aftermarket radiator.. and a somewhat optimised cooling setup. Put in a 72c thermostat which opens at least 30% more than the one I took out - result.. it has dropped my oil temps by 20c and bumped the oil pressure by at least 40kpa everywhere. ECT is now mid 70s at speed to mid 90s at standstill. And I've tried provoking it to produce smoke on over-run and I'm seeing.. _nothing_ ?! The thinking is that the lack of coolant flow with the previous tstat was causing too much heat to stay in the rings and it was allowing them to lose their tension. I sort of did this job as a pre-view to helping a friend who had the opposite problem - his stat was stuck open and his motor would never get up to temp - and he has an even bigger radiator than me ! too much cooling eh. Next oil change I will go back to 10w40/5w40 and see if it can smoke on that....

Well I've switched to a w40 and it isn't smoking but I'm fairly certain the waterpump is dieing. the noise.. oh the noise.
I'm going to do some tests with a piezo mic..

wasn't the water pump - it was the alternator... which has been replaced now, and is functioning beautifully.
happily enjoying this car again!
