Took it out on Saturday night for a run up what is otherwise a road (&hill) that's part of the rallye de catalunya. I've got gopro footage online but I won't link it 'ere since it's easy to tell I averaged 57 KM/h on it. Instead you can enjoy some daytime actual rally footage, where they were doing closer 100 KM/h on a closed course in the daylight. XD There was just one other car on the entire stretch and it had the same idea as me but was coming the other way. Side note: proposed to Mrs Atlex at the top of the hill. Romantic like. There's a church and restaurant. Then went to a car meet on the other side. Since you never see ITBs in Spain the others were quite interested and shocked by the level of modification, since such cars are rare here. Best thing of all, nobody noticed any smoke when I drove back with a few friends.

Have you discovered the source of the water leak on the drivers side?

Have you discovered the source of the water leak on the drivers side? No - and there is still a little coolant turning up after each drive. I have the 8mm id silicone caps ready to replace the cursed plug. Just waiting on a timing gun to arrive so I can take the cas off and retime the car (I'll need to do this anyway when I degree the cams..) With the cas off I'll get that plug done and we'll see. I recall seeing some coolant around the oil drain plug so :-) Will also look at the outlet at the back of the head for the heater, it's another possibility. One of the 'things' I can do is also dump the coolant that's in the motor for one of another colour, then if the new shade turns up I'll know for 100% sure it's direct from the engine, or if not, it's still flushing old spilled coolant out the firewall.

Timing gun arrived. I did the cursed water plug today. And the CAS o-ring. http://instagram.com/p/CivbGWYrIMF It was leaking on my fingers as I tried to pull it off (well before I actually got it off) so I wouldn't be surprised if it was squirting coolant somewhere. But how the hell that coolant may have gotten into the car is a mystery still. I suspect it was leaking _anyway_ whether or not it was the source of my pedal coolant.

I've had another look at where the 'leak' leaks from in the drivers footwell and I've got an alternative theory to the 'spilled coolant leaked into the firewall' now.
That theory goes: Leaking plug, especially when up to pressure, sprayed or dripped coolant onto the steering column which was then blown _up_ the column towards the area near the pedals.

Certainly feasible, does it leak more after a drive than sat at idle?

Enough to get your feet a bit wet since coolant doesn't evaporate much.

How's the steering column grommet look? I'd imagine that'd be a pig of a job to change.
You could fashion up a shield that could help prove the theory, but hopefully you've fixed it with the water plug change.

OK, so I've now driven the car twice since doing the cursed plug.
It's still dripping something in the same area, it seems less but the imagination can play tricks can't it.
There's chance it was the plug, a good one, so it may still be flushing through the route.
Maybe it just stops one day now.
Maybe it's flushing out the firewall from a previous spill.
The contents of the heater core is pure water now. I flushed it, blew it empty as I could and then capped it/bypassed it.
Bar doing the coolant flush (which I'm actually ready to do..) to change it to being red coolant and seeing if it changes colour in the drips. I'm at a loss.
Maybe it's squirting out the back of the head, but somehow isn't getting mixed with oil when that happens. that fitting at the back of the head to which the cursed plug is attached, with the route for the heater and the two temperature sensors ?
I nipped up the fitting slightly but it was already well tight.
I suspect the route the fluid was taking is just flushing out still.

I'm breaking out the gopro to try and spot a drip happening. It'll go above my feet.. :-)

Been playing with cam timing and overlap. I did a small 4 degree overlap from each cam (8 degree total) and I can feel the difference. I had most of the equipment I needed to measure the lift at the right points but the mounting of the gauge wasn't solid enough to get repeatable results. I need to collect some suitable metal scraps. heh.
clutch line leaked down last night on the way back from a party... that was fun. 2nd gear for the last 10 KM of the journey home.
I've been a bit sick/busy/busy with sick family so haven't hooked up the gopro yet....

Refilled the clutch line.
New Doctor MX5 lower boot arrived, the design is improved now with a small nylon washer lining the holes for the bolts which stops the metal upper bit compressing the silicone boot too much. finger tight is just right.
