It's MOT'd The number of turbo'd 5s about I wasn't expecting it to drive like it does! Maybe I have been driving about in a van for too long but it feels savage, the clutch seems to agree as it slips in 3rd and 4th. So while it may be on the road, the shopping list now seems bigger than ever!

I have not updated this for a very long while, probably due it not being worth updating! Sorry if this doesn't work and or is garbled nonsense I'm on my phone and already had to type this 3 times due to the page refreshing when I go and get picture URLs... Anyway, I cut my bumper, it's not that neat nor symmetrical but I assume it's less like a parachute and looks fairly mean if you don't look too closely (note to self- must neaten up) I also actually removed the hardtop a couple of times and washed it- quite unheard of phenomena! Oh, I must apologise about the quality of these photos, all are taken using my frankly abysmal potato and none were really intended for use in public.. Quite a lot of this happened: If anyone is interested this is the tiger in one of the above photos: It's good and all, but the 5 is better.. Some parts turned up from 'murica, there is a picture of the flywheel and everything laid out on the floor but I just realised it has my bare feet in and no one needs go see that. It was frankly far too expensive and has left my bank account somewhat drained, which makes the noticing of a coolant leak and oil leak ever more annoying. Soon I will have thrilling tales of a CAS o ring replacement and Ali rad and silicone hoses. Oh and the pesky cambelt. Unpleasant does not even come close, with a little more patience I probably could have got the car higher, alas patience is not my strong suit. The old bits were exedy and in pretty good nick, probably used go be even better before I began slipping it excessively under boost. New flywheel has saved me over 3.4kg since I weighed them both and the FM one seemed to be coming in around 4.5kg (quoted at 4.6kg) and the OEM 1.6 fly at 8kg. Now the very boring process of bedding it in begins... 36km down about 650 to go. Once that's all done I can finally fit this: Yay boost. Anyway that's all for now, more soon I hope!

Why thank you Squire! Wheels will change eventually, I think these weigh about 7.2kgs a corner! Bronze will stay though.
Got to realign my PPF tonight, after the first 50miles it has a pretty nasty transmission vibration at times which I assume is slight misalignment! lined it up with the ghost marks but will have to get the straight edge and tape measure out!

Went to Cheddar Gorge yesterday, was after something to distract me from my mild hangover so a drive seemed wise. Car was faultless Met up with an old friend with a 5 after was reminded of how much of a difference the turbo makes Need to book some track time, frustrating buying having all that grip and power and sitting through some glorious twisties at 20mph.

Have not been on here in a looong time! Having spent the last few months just driving the car and beavering money away in a desperate bid to buy a house nothing has changed. I have however nigh on decided that I am going to take the car off the road for winter/maybe all of next year and slowly rebuild the engine. Probably going to risk eBay forged rods, from what I have seen they are okay.. Anyway the only thing I have done is made a shifter extension to try out. I found that with my nylon knob on I get a ton on sizzle through the shifter so I have made this weighty. Going to fit a quick shifter and see if I can retain the current throw but brind the shifter nearer to the wheel.

So after much mulling over and reflection about the good old days plans for this have taken somewhat of a U turn! Turbo and most of its supporting items are now for sale (for a bargain price I must say- anyone reading this should probably go and buy them..) I am about to stick the sidelights back in, and potentially start looking for an unmolested bootlid/rear bumper... As a nod to what I have done, last night I drew, printed and started playing about with these: If anyone is interested/knows these are just my PLA prototypes. Final pieces will be printed in high temp carbon stranded polymer type stuff! I have concluded that while the turbo is epic, for me these cars aren't about going fast in a straight line. They have a great little chassis and for country lane blasts power isn't (to me) overly desirable. NA suits the ethos of the car far better, not to mention THAT NOISE!

Looking good! Have to say as impressive as (some) FI'd 5's are, ITBs are properly addictive!
One of the things I'm looking at on my setup is the length of the trumpets. Seems some of the guys in the states have founs significant gains by using longer setups. For example the standard Jenvey 50mm trumpets are allegedly not really optimal length - apparently suitaed to somewhere in the 8500-9000rpm range. Big gains apparently reported with 90-110mm trumpets that bring the harmonics down to a more useable rev range. What sort of cost is it for you to print these? Seems there's not many off the shelf options out there, especially in 42mm dia size!
