It's often amazing what you can find online and yet again, this is true as the other night before bed I was randomly going through some old topics on the MX5OC forum when I came to the threads about the Bruntingthorpe track day in June 2017 - and what do I see? My car going round the track driven by the previous owner!! This is equally really cool and also to see it getting hammered lol! Anyway, long story short, I now have some photos of my car that I previously didn't know existed - note the original BBS wheels still on the car here in 2017 that were sadly no longer with it when I bought it in 2019, hence the tatty Mk2 wheels it was wearing at that point. Anyway, moving swiftly on, about a month ago I tracked down some ARC decals for sale on eBay USA (only ones I could find anywhere) and these were $9.99 + $30.00 postage to the UK (i know, but I wanted them) in pretty much any colour you wanted. So having just bought the ARC off Scott, I went for the red. One month later, they landed on Saturday. I purchased two, but they sent six which was a result! So i've put one in the obvious location, but also stuck one on the back as well as I had some spares - note the dedication to getting it straight on the rear window Also, one other small addition thanks to Horney

Today proves yet again that sometimes, it's the smallest jobs that can give the most satisfaction My headlights needed re-aligning as had drooped a bit. Before and after pics;

I know this is probably a well worn path, but new to me so allow it ......... sometimes when I start the car i've noticed this loud clicking noise, the lifter tick sort of thing - it will go reasonably quickly when it does it, and doesn't do it every time from cold start up, just sometimes - but this, coupled with a loud squeal on start up (again intermittent) this isn't always a car you could quietly start and drive away in stealth mode if late at night! Anyone else get this? Any easy fixes? The belts have ALL been changed earlier this year which was a cause of a nasty squeal when i got the car as one or two were covered in oil from a previous leak so was wondering if it's a pulley or bearing type squeal? The oil was also last changed in November 2019, only around 3000 km's ago and will be changed again in January so surely it's not rough old oil causing the tick, i read online the HLA's will sound better with an oil change so hopefully that is just the case! Because it doesn't do it all the time and goes quite quick when it does it, hoping I don't have to get involved with changing lifters etc, for now anyway!

Always change your oil filter when you change your oil!
On the belt/bearing squeak on start up, spray some water on the belts, only a mist, if the noise stops it’s your belts, not a bearing.
Tighten the belts, the noise will probably go away. If it doesn’t fit new belts.

Oh yeah course, it had a genuine Mazda oil filter fitted with the oil change last November and have another new genuine Mazda filter for next month's change. Good tip with the spray!

If its doing it on startup and going away you may just have one that doesn't get oil circulation straight away. Really is nothing to worry about, just sounds annoying/embarassing sometimes. Mine does it occassionaly on startup but the oil has been in the car for nearly a year now (even though its not done the miles) so I plan to change it just before I tax it next year to get the most life out of the new oil. Before the last oil change mine used to do it when hot after a blast and left idling even well before it was due a change, I switched from Castrol to millers 10w40 and it went away and lasted much longer so was probably due a change but I the millers stuff seems to last better. I've now switched to 10W50, firstly because its mostly used during the summer and always gets warm and secondly its what I use in the Subaru so I can buy more in one go and never have any dregs lying around for a year.

That is the noise exactly! It doesn't do it every time, but occasionally this is the noise I get when the car is started from cold - like a fast tapping - leave it running on the drive for a couple of minutes or longer and it stops, i've never had it do it when the car is hot. As you said can be embarrassing especially if you get the start up squeal and then that! The oil in the car at the moment is 0W-40 Full Synthetic Mobil 1, which is what MX5 Parts recommended last year, as i'd literally just bought the car and had no idea back then! Next oil change regardless of this issue will be in January, when it gets MOT'd. This is good to hear it's nothing to worry about, again proving all cars are different. What put the financial fear in me and wanted to ask about it was hearing that noise and thinking back to my old Grey Escort RS Turbo Series 2 I had a few years ago, that started making a similar nasty tapping noise and would flicker the oil light, which ended up needing all new lifters and a new cam etc! That sucked!!

Look up the ATF lifter ticket flush, it does work. I use atf as a flush or pre-change as it has detergents in it's mix 1/2L in before a 5 min drive will do it although can be left longer if not under heavy load = nice clean engine Rich.

I had a good excuse to clean the car again a week or so ago as we took it out for the yearly Christmas time garden centre adventure (no jokes please as this one does have some lovely Christmas stuff to buy ) and due to being in the countryside, the car was ruined - this photo is very deceiving to the state it was in especially the back end! So that was all cleaned and made nice again, then....... Engine bay update, number 212! More cleaning and tidying of bits here and there this week and again, I know these updates are nowhere near as interesting as a turbo conversion or new racing bucket seats, but compared to when I bought this car, i'm really starting to notice the difference now. I've learnt it had been laid up for a couple of years before the previous owner bought it and although he did all the mechanicals and had it running nicely, he was no bufty, hence the green moss like cr@p at the top of the wings etc when I bought it. Anyway, progress has been seen over several updates but the strut tops were next on this list. Nasty rusty nuts, chipped paint on the lip/edge either side bla bla. So bought 4x genuine Mazda strut top nuts from MX5 parts, these at 3 quid each were not cheap but oh well! Also carefully painted around the edges either side with the genuine touch up stick, in code PT of course for chaste white. Then bought the I.L. Motorsport chrome strut top covers. Still hardly a show car, but an improvement all the same! BEFORE;AFTER;One thing I do want to replace is the bracket that the diagnostics plug clips onto - could take it off and paint it but something that big and in view, i think it'll look rough. Need to keep an eye out for a newer or better condition one to swap like for like; The eagle eyed there may also spot the cambelt sticker, not a bad thing to have to remind me when it was changed, but also quite cool that it's a Japanese one and yes i looked up how to fill it in correctly Last but not least, I finally managed to get hold of the Eunos Roadster brochure for my car. Been after one of these for over a year and finally one came up on eBay so snatched it straight away. In almost new condition too, so can't argue at 25 quid posted! Imagine having one of these cars when they looked this fresh and brand new;

Looking great! Mine is utterly filthy at the moment, might treat it to a good clean after Christmas :-)
Also need to sort out headlight droop, will have a look on the 'tube but how did you do yours?

Yep as above it is literally that simple! Just open the bonnet and pull them up from the top (top being closest to the windscreen). Pull them up quite far and then close the bonnet and if sitting a little high, you can then just push them back down a little! Simples! In theory it's a 2 minute job, but took me longer to get them both just so as had to keep shutting and opening the bonnet

There are also elongated slots on the cover mounting points, but you have to remove the plastic covers and keep opening and closing the bonnet

Haha OK, I thought it was something to do with the little red twiddly knobs on top of the motors. Will probably wash it first
