the front bumper had badly reacted paint - tech explanation: top layer reacted badly then shucked back into a not-yet-dry primer coat. Also the side sill black bit wasn't done behind where the front mudguards were, so when mudguards came off it looked quite odd (lol). that's sorted now, black section all along the sill..

Starting the journey friday night. Should be crossing the Forth bridge early afternoon :-) The new one or the older one? You'll likely have a route planned route but if you're doing the NC500, try get the cairn'o'mount road and Lecht ski centre road included Hopefully the weather improves for you!

Octane booster is a must, everything from Inverness to John O'groats is pretty boring, make sure you do the west cost section of the NC500 and include a lap of Skye through the old man of storr, there is a road goes pretty close that was voted second best road of something at one point. Applecross is a must as well and applecross inn has decent food also. I'll stop bombarding your thread

Car is prepped and ready for the trip. Even emptied the main catch can. Just clocked 35K miles tonight. Heading off this friday evening to drive as far north as I feel happy to do in an evening. M6 route :-)

Started treating the surface rust on my new torsen and centre shaft.
I've ground most of the rust I can reach off with a Wire wheel / Makita rat-tail grinder. (Canoeing terrifying and also very effective)
Last night started the Fertan treatment. Interesting stuff. It's a weak organic acid that turns rust into zinc oxide. Tannic acid. Which means it stinks of spilled wine or fruit juice.
Will put up a few photos of it - the iron/rust goes black ! .... can then hammerite it directly after spraying it down.

Didn't think anyone used that any more? You spraying or applying the paint with a brush?
