So picked up the RX7 FD from Ron at the flock shop not long ago as I couldn't let someone else buy it as I knew he was going to trash it (he wanted it to learn to drift in, need I say more?). Anyway; it's a 1993 jap car imported in 1999 and that's pretty much where the detail about this car ends... There has been one (1!!!) MOT the whole time it's been in the UK, that ladies and gentlemen, was in 2006 (yes that 2006, 10 years ago! ) it failed that MOT for minor things like bulbs, brake pads and drop links so you would have thought you'd just get it fixed and then it'd fly through but no, apparently not. That was at 41,862 miles (but I'm assuming it was kilometres due to it being an import. I did a HPI check after I got it and that's turned up nothing either, plates have never been changed, never been in an accident and as you'd expect no outstanding finances since it was imported I'm guessing it has been used for shows etc as it had neons (I know) on it and looks like it's had a body kit on at some point as well as some big white alloys and a few Mazdaspeed items. One of these items is a set of clocks, it's pretty obvious as they haven't been pushed all the way into the dash and when you turn the electrics on they show roughly 167k which just can't be true for a car which has never been driven on the road..? oh and it also has an exhaust bigger than my waistline...

I understand it's been in storage for some time by the person 3 owners ago and stored by the previous 2 owners so I know it's certainly not moved much in the last 4/5 years. Apparently the owner 3 ago had it in dry storage (I assume for a long time) as it had to be removed with a forklift *wince* as there is also some damage underneath it looks like the person tried to jack it up to move it, pulled the Jack, it's slipped off the front subframe and dented some power steering lines and caused a massive gaping hole in the radiator and air con radiator.

Oh it also had a cool plug pop out the back of the engine.. So anyway, out with the old and in with the new, let the resurrection commence! Out came the old rad, the fans were removed so I could just reuse them. Now to get to the radiator in a RX7 it's nothing like the MX5, you need to remove the battery, a fuse box, air intake, intercooler and lots of other prarrie canoety plastic items which sit above it. After the main radiator came out I was convinced to remove the air con (boo) which was just a bit more ballache. New mishimoto radiator turned up and into its new home it goes, it's just sat in at the moment and not plumbed in etc. A new oil cooler also turned up to replace the one previously living in the old rad, a bracket is going to need to be made up to fit but that'll be fine. New rad hoses to go in too,

wtf puts a mesh grill on a rex ? also... fork lifts to move cars ? !!! bloody apes!!! The same person that sticks neons on a car that can't be driven on the road and paints only half the brake caliper... Oh and the same person who has LEDs in the pedals and the steering wheel has to be seen to be believed it's that bad

some of the most beautiful cars to ever grace any road, the fd3s... a shape like some sort of organic spaceship designed by 150iq space-squid from a more aesthetic dimension.

After mounting the rad up and fitting the new hoses I started to piece everything back together. The fuse box (one of many in the 7 oddly) was unable to sit into its mounting point by an inch or so, thought it must have been because of the thicker rad so "modified to fit" aka hit it with a hammer till it fitted. Then the airbox wouldn't sit on top properly... Brain got puzzled and after a bit of investigative work realised the rad mounting brackets had been put on the wrong way round (silly me!). I started to take it off again, got Canoeed off and gave up. Then had the following pointed out to me "you can remove the rad from underneath, you don't need to take all the stuff out from above" LOL twat!
New bits and pieces ordered (and delivered) today, new belts, air filter, oil filter etc. Now just need to source some decent oil (Opie) and fingers crossed for this weekend!

Spent the holiday weekend working on it bit by bit, everything at the front is back in (except a battery), just needs a coil plug in and some oil before we give it a try. Also found a recommended rebuilder should it need it. D-day is getting close and the excitement/nervous levels are increasing...

oh yeah, new belts, air filter, oil filter etc are all in.
I can see why people remove the standard plastic air box, think there are 8 holes in it from memory none of which are easy to put back together!
